Burnt Lines

2021, climate change denier text written with artist-made bushfire ash ink on Yupo paper, 59.4 cm x 84.1 cm

Burnt Lines is a series where I rewrite my hate mail and hate tweets from climate change deniers using ink I made from the ashes of the Australian bushfires.

Ash and burned plants are ground into smaller pieces using a mortar and pestle.
Gum arabic and water are added to the mix to make ink.
I take passages from my hate mail and tweets and compose them on A4 paper.

After vector tracing them on Illustrator, I create a stencil to laser cut on A1 paper.

This stencil is what I use to trace the text using my ash ink and a cockatoo feather, ensuring that I can make multiples.
